Default distributor o-ring on 91

I went to change mine this weekend and when I pulled the distributor out I didn't see any evidence of one ever being there? I installed the o-ring right at the base of the distributor so that it basically was squeezed between the distributor and the head - is that right? If not then please point me in the right direction...[/align]

I believe there is a little groove around the "shaft" on the distributor that goes into the head and it fits in that so then it ends up being squished in the place you mention.... here's a breakdown

if the distr o-ring was missing , there must have been a petty good oil leak coming from below the distributor when engine was running

I took it apart again last night and it appears that I just plain didn't realize the o-ring was there because it was so hard and flat that I thought it was some sort of hard plastic bushing that was part of the distributor. I took it out and installed the new o-ring in that groove and reinstalled it. The new o-ring was stretched out because of being installed over base of the disrtibutor but I will give it a shot and see if it leaks. Thanks!
