Default Distributor Rotor Differences

I'm looking into another tune up but I remember last time I replaced my distributor rotor the product that showed up for the f22b1 (vtec) didn't fit on the distributor. Turned out the f22b2 (non-vtec) fit. But I have the vtec engine.

I can't remember the exact part but I'm wondering if some of the vtecs have different rotors? I'm pretty sure this is a hitachi.

Thanks

In regards to the distributor rotor, there is a difference between the EX (vtec) vs LX and DX (non-VTEC).

The rotor for an EX is the same for model years 94-97 on a 4 cylinder engine. The rotor for LX and DX are the same for model years 94-97.

If you talk about the distributor housing, then there is a difference in model years 94-95 vs 96-97 for the 4 cylinder.

Its the rotor oddly enough. The non vtec fit but the vtec did not fit. The engine runs fine and the distributor is a hitachi. Maybe it was the difference in years and just a coincidence.

So whats the difference in the early and late model rotors then? Function wise the same or is it because of the obd1 and 2 differences?

Distributor housing is different between the obd1 and 2 5th gens and also the vtec and non vtec? I do know that the non-vtec has the ignition coil outside the housing.

I guess the database at advance auto mightve been incorrect. Thanks for the part numbers.

The following are some of the differences:

94-95 EX and Canada EX-R
  • TDC/CKP/CYP sensors are inside distributor housing
  • 8P and 2P gray wire connectors
  • internal ignition coil
94-95 DX, LX and Canada EX
  • TDC/CKP/CYP sensors are inside distributor housing
  • 8P and 2P gray wire connectors
  • external ignition coil
96-97 EX
  • CYLINDER POSITION (CYP) SENSOR inside distributor housing
  • 5P and 2P gray wire connectors
  • internal ignition coil

96-97 DX, LX, and SE and Canada EX
  • CYLINDER POSITION (CYP) SENSOR inside distributor housing
  • 4P and 2P gray wire connectors
  • external ignition coil
CRANKSHAFT POSITION/TOP DEAD CENTER (CKP/TDC) SENSOR is not inside the distributor for 96-97 DX, LX, SE, EX and Canada EX. The combined CKP/TDC sensor is located behind the crank pulley.
