There's a handful of UK members, so I'll change the thread title to maybe attract their attention.

Definately has a timing chain. This should really last at least 200k! About the only time it needs changing before this if it gets a bit noisy, which occasionally happens.

No Accord Diesels at alll in the USA then? Considering some of the distances that you drive, diesel makes sense, especially considering how frugal they are on the highway.

Yeah, tell that to Honda USA...

Not a Honda but last time I was in England, I got a rental VW tdi and I was impressed. But it seems like there's a few things against diesels in USA:
Memories of the Oldsmobile diesels.
Reluctance of oil companies to sell ultra-low-sulfur fuel - but that's changing.
EPA limits on NOx.

One factor against the Accord Diesel, is that it doesnt come with an automatic transmission. I don't think that would go down well in the USA would it?

My mate in Boston has a Diesel powered VW Jetta, he gets about 650 miles to one tank on the highway!

Wonderful. I don't like automatic transmissions. But yeah, that could be a factor.
