Default door molding tape?

I'm replacing the door moldings after painting. In the 03-05 service manual (page 20-198) it doesn't show the tape applied to the top of the rear door molding. This seems strange to me, because it would likely let water get in to the holes on the door. Can someone explain

Oh, by the way. Here's a pic of the fresh paint.

Humm, that is odd?

When you pulled it (old trim), what was there?

No, there was no tape on the top of the rear door molding. I don't get it.

Anyone changed these moldings before? Honda techs?

Again, I did this on the 95 and there was tape on the upper and lower part of it.

If the OE trim came off and was not there....the manual says not to put it there......I guess we have to trust them?

It looks like the design of the clip is angled to prevent water (well most of it) from getting into the hole where the clip attaches.

There's already water getting into the door, through the rubber seal at the bottom of the window. That's normal and there's drains along the bottom of the door.

I bet the trick is to clip on those parts without chipping any paint around the mounting holes.

I'm going to apply the tape like the book says, but it just makes me wonder why both sides on the front door, and not the rear. I guess I'll just trust them, and go along. Thanks for the help guys.
