Default Door window trim rubber

Howdy, bought my son an '11 Accord LX Sedan. All 4 of the window trim pieces' rubber, at the base of the window I am referring to, is turning to mush! If you touch it, it comes off on your finger and looks like black tar! Probably from some years here in the Vegas heat and sun! Can I buy that rubber separately, or must I purchase the chrome trim?

Thanks in advance!

Rob

Check out hondapartsunlimited in Phoenix. Good web page and good prices.

The rubber is attached to the chrome trim.

You'll have to remove the door panels to replace the molding assembly. It is held in with two screws and some clips. In addition, for the fronts, the mirror has to be removed.

Thanks for the info guys! I found a video showing the removal on an '09. There are 4 clips that insert downward and a screw at each end. But the person said the screws are attainable without removing the panel. I will need to investigate and see if I see where and if the screw locations are the same.

Thanks again!

I looked on my car, the two screws on the front door can be removed without taking off the door panel, as they are visible. On the rear doors, I only see one screw visible, the other screw is covered.

I just double checked to find the covered screw in the rear. It is covered by the rubber weather strip; but, I slid a finger around it to see if I could feel the screw and found it. The screw can be removed without taking off the weather strip covering it.

My 03 Accord service manual says if you remove the chrome moldings you have to replace them, and at $50-$60 each, two per door, that adds up to about $450. The manual says you will bend the moldings removing them. I assume the 8th generation moldings are similar. I was going to remove them when I painted the car, but seeing what it would cost to replace them I decided to mask them.

The OP only referred to the chrome molding at the base of the window, which would only be 1 per door. The molding at the base can be removed and re-installed, as it doesn't have adhesive like the chrome molding that runs on top.

2 front@ approx. $43 = $86, 2 rear @ approx. $39 = $78; or approx. $164 plus shipping from online Honda dealership.

I found the 4 with 14 new clips and shipping for $170ish.
