Default EFI Swap

I have a 1986 Accord that turned 420,000 miles on the way to work yesterday morning. In the event the engine ever gives up, what are the options for installing a later model fuel injected engine? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,

Good for you....420K

Swaps, and what is involved. That is going to depend on what you are willing to do and what you have to start with (DX, LX or LXi) and what you want out of it.

I don't know much about Hondas in general. Mine is a carbureted DX automatic. The car is in really good condition and very comfortable to drive but gutless as can be. I get between 27 and 29 mpg and drive 130 miles round trip per day to work and back. I live at 7000 ft elevation and have a pretty good climb the last few miles to the house. The road is very curvy and the car handles well.

The reason to go to EFI would be mileage, power and drivability. I don't mind sacrificing power for mileage to an extent and would like to increase the mileage to the mid 30s or higher.

As far as what I'm willing to do, that really depends on cost and effort.

If there is an engine that would bolt up and not require a ton of fabrication with a plug and play stand alone EFI that would be great. In other words if it were to be like putting a TBI small block Chevy in to an early truck. Buy a harness, plug it in and you're off.

Thanks again

Idk about the 86 but 88 /89 model ef civic will accept a b18 motor. Some modifications are required to do this such as notching the frame and modifieing the firewall by the alt. A freind had an 88 dx 4 door dx with a b18b motor in it with cams and camgears the thing flew. Good luck with your project.
