Last week my 96 accord lx with a2.2 threw code P1491....which was for the egr valve. Well i put a new on and still get the same thing. It runs rough at idle and the check engine light came back on. Also just today now i cant get my car to shift out of park while running. If i just turn the key to on without starting it can shift it but not when the eninge is running. ANY help would be great.
when it doesn't shift out of park have you tried wiggling the key a bit? It's possible that it's an ignition problem, Does the button feel like it has tension and is releasing properly on the shifter?
Your Service Manager goes to all that trouble to hand out those Service News bulletins and you didn't keep yours in a 3 ring binder? Tsk Tsk Tsk LOL

The code should be a 2 trip code because it is an emission code, EGR only functions if the Coolant temp is above 104 degrees F.
Next lineitem is the shift interlock problem; can you hear the interlock solenoid under the center console when you step on the brake? Engine running? or engine off Key on?

Thanks for the info....Ok i got the egr thing sorted out.
As far as the shift lock the button has tension and i dont hear anything in the console but i have noticed that along with this my trans has started shifting hard and it doesnt want to drop into forth gear very easily it tends to hang in third until it the RPMs hit about 5000. Could this be related?
