Default egr plug puller

going to finally do my erg port cleaning.
pulled the procedure from this site, and got some good info. from folks here- thank you.
now have been trying to find the slidehammer referenced in the procedure.
where can I get one locally. i tried checker auto and they lend one out for free but it is huge - won't work.
also - can i use self tapping screws, then pull these with the slide hammerto avoid using a tap set to put threads on the plugs and just yank them out this way?

thanks

You don't have to use the tap and threaded bolt to go into the plug; I've alwaysused sheet metal screws, and predrilled a 1/8" hole. I got a 6" long drill bit from a local nut and bolt supply house.
As far as the slide hammer, check with body shop supply places.
It is a one pound slide hammer you are looking for.

I found my slide hammer at a local "tools outlet" shop for about $10. When you use a slide hammer, the key is small, repeated slaps of the slide to loosen the plugs. If you hit it too hard, the screw will be pulled out of the plug, requiring a deeper drilled hole, and possibly penetration of the plug. I penentrated two of my plugs and potted them w/ J&B weld epoxy to seal them. It's worked fine for several years now. Wood screw or sheet metal screw will work on most hammers.

good luck
