Default Electrical Fire

Went out in the garage and found that there was smoke coming from my 99 Accord V6. I opened the hood and there was a considerable amount of smoke coming from the left front part of the engine compartment which I proceeded to put out wth a fire extinguisher. The exact spot is the forward most top component that is attached to the belt. As you can already tell I am not mechanically proficient. Any clue to what I am referring to. Is it the AC or alternator or neither. The object is round with air vents all around. Inside it one can see wires which at this point are melted. I pushed the car out of the garage and am going to get it towed in the morning. It still starts.

Thanks for any info. Could not find a scematic online anywhere.

Let my look at my manual, it seems like your describing an alternator...but I have to see the anatomy of the V6 real quick...be back shortly.

Have you replaced the alternator or whoever owned vehicle before you, did?

I think that was the cheapest service price in the world!! Like that dude on the camaro went up on flames - same problem - got a great deal with installation at "Sears" PFFFF good thing he was catching fire near the station - You could quite tell he looked like an aborigene running around a camp fire ( he was panicing
