Engine Swap 97 Accord
I am a Marine currently in Iraq. When i get back i am planning on doing a engine swap on my 97 Accord LX, however im not really sure which one to put in yet. Should i get the H22a or the F20b? whichever i get i need to be able to get a auto tranny with it because i want my wife to be able to drive it once i deploy again. Any suggestions? Reliable places to find the engines and trannys? Any other performance mods i should do after? let me know of ANY advice you have. Thanks

Both have been done before, one will require you to go OBD1, the other will allow you to stay OBD2, both put out the same HP, but the H22 has slightly more TQ.
If it were me, F20B.

The H22a would require you to go OBD1.
You can pick up the F20B for fairly cheap from www.tigerjapanese.com - I myself have never ordered from here but I know several people that have ordered from them and would do so again. You can't really beat the prices either.
For the motor and tranny combo you're probably looking at around $1500 + shipping and about $1000 or so to convert to manual. It'll be much easier if you're able to do it all at once or find a shop that can do it for you.

The entire valvetrain (minus the valves, the F20B valves are smaller on intake and exhaust I think) for the H22 will work for the F20B. None of the bottom end components are compatable between the two motors. Things like water pump, timing belt, acces belts should all be the same or similar between the two. Headers and intakemanifoldsare also compatible.
i think i might go with the h22a or even kick it up to the type s because i found a place like 30 mins away over in Palm Springs that i can buy from and installs. for the complete swap and changeover plus installation itll be like 3000-3500 if i go type s then its an extra 2500....it just looks more cost effective if i go h22 instead of f20b but i think later on ima get a accord coupe and go the f20 route. thanks for all the advice. i appreciate it alot
