Default A few issues

Well I just got this honda accord EX the other day and so far it runs good but has some issues. First off, when the car is first started its smokes a lot but does have a hole in the exhaust pipe before the muffler dont know if that would be a part of the problem or not, the speedometer does not work but everything else in the dash does work as far as my knowledge, the horn does not work, and the last of the major problems when i turn on the headlights they work fine but when I try to turn on high beams they stay the same, the dash shows high beams on but the lights stay in low beam. Any ideas on how to fix any of that?

Well to take things 1 problem at a time.

A Car that smokes a lot upon startup normally has bad valve seals. A sign of not a healthy motor normally. How many miles on the car? Not going to be related to the hole in the exhaust.

Speedometer - does the odometer work? If not you may have a bad VSS

Horn - check fuses

High beams - check power using a test meter at the connector that plugs into the high beam bulbs when the high beams are one and see if you have power there, if so replace high beam bulbs.

Ok, car has approx. 132,xxx and only smokes when first started, after a minute it stops...I will check fuses for the horn......As for the high beams...when I turn them on shouldnt the low beams go off? They dont go off at all they just stay on.

Ok, I will check the high beam bulbs then. Thanks for that....I think eventually I will have to change the whole wire harness though. I dont know if the odemeter works or not...I know the RPM gauge works, it seems like gas gauge works but dont know yet.

why would you change the whole wire harness?
that seems a bit drastic

Well the main reason for that is it looks like the previous owner was an idiot....alot of wires look like they have been cut and spliced. The radio wires were cut off behind the stock radio harness clip.

ok, found out that the speedometer does work. Still no horn or high beams but havent had a chance to check the high beam bulbs yet. Will hopefully find out all the in and outs of what is wrong with engine and wiring soon. Car is supposed to go in the shop in the next few days. will keep updated when I find out more.

I got the high beams working. Turns out there was a short in the wires. As for the horn, i think it needs to be replaced. Checked wires for horn and they are good. Should turn signals flash fast?

turn signals normally flash fast because one of the bulbs has burned out which changed the resistance in the circuit. Have you checked all the bulkbs?
