Starting to have some good size oil leaks and want to get it fixed.

I have a 97 Honda Accord DX with 150k on the car and 80k on the motor.

I put a piece of cardboard under the car to help find out generally what part of the motor its leaking from. The pic is of the cardboard under the car with it running for about 20 minutes. It doesn't seem to leak while the engine is off, only when running do I notice the puddles on my driveway.

When I put the engine in the car I replaced the timing belt and gears, the rear main seal (the one behind the "fly wheel" - the one the starter engages), and the o ring on the coil.

I plan on crawling under it and looking around but wanted to see if anyone knew off the bat where these might be.

To get where the car would be situated on the cardboard, my feet would be where the fire wall would be. The left side of the pic is the drivers side. If you are able to zoom in you will be able to see where the tires are outlined.

 

I have come to find that oil pan gaskets are pretty common to leak. Just something to check out If so I scored mine for under 20$ at my local autozone made by felpro. 120 inch poulds to torque. (10 ft lbs.) Just did mine-not too bad-hope this helps.

 

did you check your distributor. they tend to leak ?

 

I see where you had the cardboard labeled, but it is still hard to visualize the general area of the drip. Just give us some bearings here. Driver or passenger side of the engine. Bumper or firewall side. This may help narrow down the leak.

 

The main drip seems to be toward the front of the engine where the tranny and motor meets.

When I drive, I can smell oil burning which seems to tell me its dripping on the exhaust system somewhere.

 

Can you help with a bit more info....Is the leak from the top of the engine? Or is it starting lower on the engine/trans?

 

That's the problem. I have not found it yet. Can't see where it's coming from.

 

Oil flows downward, so telling us the highest point where you see oil can give us some information. Is there oil just below the distributor?

 

Let me try to stick my head in there again this weekend and see what I can find.

 

...again a pic or two and we might be able to help. Many of us have had/or have the same gen car....so seeing it and where the oil it coming from....
