Default First time Honda Owner needs some help

I bought a 99 Accord EX 4 Cylinder a couple of weeks ago. I realised that it had some issues but the price was fair. So far I have replaced the Battery(last week), and Alternator(today). Also I have A CEL(i think thats what its called) that is P1457(I think I need to replace the Vapor canister). However, the Question that I have is, With my new Alternator installed my car isnt idleing well(it was before). Especially when coming to a stop. I have a Haynes book but it isnt very clear about Idle speed adjustment. Could I have over Tightend the Belt? Please Respond with any suggestions.

Thanks.

Clean throttle plate (both sides, throttle bore, idle air control valve(IACV), and ports to IACV. I think the throttle body must be removed to access ports on your Accord. Check DIY forum for guidance and check youtube for videos of procedure.

good luck

The DYI section is only for write-ups on completed projects, not for asking questions.

You can search the DYI section for an answer but please do not ask a question there.

What about DIY requests, would that be appropriate?

No, not "DIY requests". We moderators wish that there wasn't such a board, & we're trying to discourage anyone from posting there. Here in General Tech is where you post questions.

Look in "DIY answers" for a post by me about EVAP leaks. Probably you can search for "P1457". Get that straightened out first. A common failure is the vent-shut valve which should be explained in there.

But if YOUR EVAP failure is the purge valve, then I think it would act like a vacuum leak. A vacuum leak will cause the idle to surge up & down.

Then look in DIY answers for a post by me about setting the BASE idle.

Wow! Thanks JimBlake. I guess I wasnt searching for the right things. I think I have what I need to get this problem solved. Im going to fix the EVAP problem ASAP. But your response(with schematic) to darko's Idle Problems Post was exactly what I was looking for. Thank you very much. I will update when I have completed the Throttle body cleaning and Base Idle Set Procedure. It may be two weeks before everything is done.

Thanks again
