i've got a spinning wheel stud on my girlfriends accord, the shop that just did the water pump forgot to tighten down the lug nuts and now its my problem to fix.

after i try to get a sawzall blade in through the wheel and cut the stud, take the wheel caliper and rotor off, will i have enough room to push the old stud through the back?

also once i get a better look at the remaining 3 if they look alright (they tightened down fine) would i be crazy not to replace them while i'm at it?

 

Get the car on jackstands and remove the wheel. Unbolt the caliper bracket (two bolts) and the two bolts holding on the brake line. The whole caliper should pull off. Hang the caliper from the upper control arm using wire or a bunjee cord. Turn the hub so the broken wheel stud is now on the side where the caliper was bolted.

Take a hammer and hit out the broken stud. You will have enough room to feed the new wheel stud into the hub and use some washers and a lug nut to press the stud into the hub. DO a google search for this, because I think there is a thread on honda-tech that has some pictures.

As for the other wheel studs, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Wheel studs seem to only get screwed up when someone cross-threads them or forgets to tighten the lug nuts.

If you're that far apart, at least look at the other studs carefully. If you were driving around, maybe 1 or 2 others are bent a little bit but not broken yet.

 

just posting back to say that once i got the caliper and bracket off there was plenty of room to get a new wheel stud in and out.

the other studs looked fine and i decided to leave them alone.
