Default Fuel Gauge - How Much Left on Empty?

When my new-to-me '18 Accord fuel gauge reads empty (and elec. Range estimate says zero miles), how do I really have left?

With previous cars you generally had approx. 20 mi. left even when the fuel needle was on empty.

What are recent Accords getting?

I'm not sure. You can try to estimate how much gas is left by subtracting the tank capacity from the amount of gas to fill the tank. Avoid running the car out of gas, because it could damage the fuel pump especially on direct injected engines. Gas acts as a lubricant and cools the fuel pump when running.

The 'distance to empty' calculation is an early lead-in to a "low fuel warning light," I believe.
If your model year still has this warning light - well all of my Jap cars that have had a low fuel light had 2.6 gal left when that light came on.
Try to google it.

The caution about not running out, PaHonda above, is valid. Son did that on a car and fried the pump.

Thanks for the warning about running dry. As suggested, I might try to calculate it by checking the tanks capacity vs amount of fuel to fill it.

Thanks all,
Joe
