Default Fuel Tank Vapor Control Valve?

The MIL came on after I filled the car up two nights ago. No codes and the scan tool says the light should be off. I have the 98-02 Service Manual V6 Supplement but not the Service Manual.
How do I check the Fuel Tank Vapor Control Valve? Any other things that cause this problem while/from fueling?
Thanks Gregg

Not screwing on the gas cap at least 3 clicks will trigger the CEL and tell you to check the evap can and what not.

If the light is still on scan it again and clear the code... or try a different tool.

I did not know that would cause a code but I actually tried that just to see and even disconnected the battery for thirty minutes just to see if it would clear the light. Still no codes to clear and I did use a friend’s scan tool along with mine. I’m not sure if I’m even on the right track. I just know what I was doing when it started which was just fillingup.
If I did want to check the Valve what do I need to do and is it on top of the tank where the fuel pump housing is?
