Default Gas tank

Hello I have a problem with my gastank, I posted a problem about my transmission and the help I got here was very helpful, so thank you. Well the problem I am having is that theres a little line in the middle of the tube that puts the gas in the tank when filling it up. I dont know what thats for and I am having trouble hooking it back up. I am thinking its for air but iam not sure.

if I am thinking of the right tube it's either a vent tube or it's a return tube for fuel shutoff etc..... how'd it come disconnected and when did you notice it? and if you posted your vehicle info in your signature and I missed it I appologize but what kind of car is it?

If it's connected to the gas tank I would re-connect it.... I believe that is the tube that fuel bubbles up through when the gas tank is full to cut off the nozzle....

I just replaced the tank in my 91, and I noticed the short tube coming from the tank. I assumed it must connect to a line in the filler tube, but I found no corresponding line in the filler tube on the vehicle. I looked and felt in there, and found nothing. I did not connect it to anything during reassembly.

There should be a fitting a top of filler tube to connect the rubber hose. If you remove your gas cap you can see the air return entry point. The ventline allows air trapped in the tank by rising fuel level to vent. If the vent is not open, filling the tank will be very slow. If you left the open end underneath the car it would be prone to dirt and water entering the tank, and the emissions system could not work as designed.

good luck
