General CEL question.

I was just wondering if a bad VSS (speed sensor) will cause the CEL to go on. Also, what ways are there to check if the VSS is indeed bad?

Yes it can pop a CEL. But check your codes 1st be4 you assume that it’s VSS

thanks g22... i'll be sure to see what code(s) it's spittin out...

One way for the VSS.... if the VSS is bad then the cruise-control won't work.

So for example... if you get an error code for VSS yet the cruise-control works, then you know the sensor is OK so you need to find wiring problems in the car.

thanks HAF... replaced VSS, speedometer works... now to figure out why my cruise control doesn't work... and troubleshoot my weird idle

This really belongs in General Tech, so I'll move it.
