Default Geniune Honda or aftermarket - timing belt set

i plan on changing my first timing belt/water pump, etc...

do you guys have any qualms with going aftermarket?
i have a 2002 4cyl accord with 53k miles.

i was looking at:
for $174 you get a:
"mitsuboshi" (sp?) timing belt
"mitsuboshi" (sp?) balance shaft belt
aisin water pump w/ gasket
(2) tensioners springs
(2) tensioner springs
Your Parts Search Returned 3 Part(s)

for $304 you get a:
genuine honda timing belt
genuine honda balance shaft belt
genuine honda power steering belt
genuine honda compressor belt
genuine honda water pump (do i need to buy gasket(s) separately?)
genuine honda balance shaft tensioner
genuine honda timing belt tensioner
(probably have to buy separate tensioner springs?)

your help is appreciated.

Honda doesn't make belts. Some rubber company makes them for Honda, but I don't know if Mitsuboshi (yes that's correct) is their supplier.

Honda dealer waterpump should have the gasket in the box.
Honda parts includes the 2 external drive belts, so that's a few bucks there.

It's not clear whether the aftermarket list includes the tensioner pulleys. Who cares about the springs, the tensioners are bolted solid in place anyway. They might be included in the tensioners.

Default good year kit

hi,
did you get the good year timing belt kit with the water pump?
Any reports on this kit?

Also, how did you loosen the crank pulley bolt? impact wrench?

thanks for any info.

i'm still brain storming.. if i were to do it, i'd get a crank pulley tool either from my friend (if he has it) or i'd buy one?

the belts are one thing, but if i were to get genuine pulleys, it'd come out to be $130 whereas the aftermarket kit includes the pulleys.

do you have any opinions about aftermarket water pumps and pulleys?

no I bought the water pump at a local store

to remove the crank bolt you need a pulley holder (to keep the crank pulley still) then a 6 ft long pipe slid over of a 3/4" breaker bar.

I do not recommend an impact wrench

I have read about a lot of people using an impact wrench to get that bolt loose. Some impact wrenches could not loosen that bolt. That bolt will be the toughest part of the job. I would try to loosen that first before doing anything else.

If you run into a problem, you may want to take your car to a shop. They usually have a powerful impact wrench and a big air compressor that can loosen the bolt. Then they can snug it back down. Find out if the shop would be willing to do this and find out the cost.
