Genuine Honda vs. Auto Zone parts
Time for timing belt replacement on my '99 EX. Going to replace the tensioner, and adjuster, and of course the water pump too. My question is has anyone had any experience, good or bad, with AutoZone parts? Are they as good as genuine Honda parts? Trying to figure out if the difference in price is worth having Honda parts or if AutoZone parts are good enough. The car has 240,000 miles on it and I'm not sure I will keep it long enough to have to change the belt again. I would be saving $148 with AutoZone parts, which have a lifetime warranty, but of course the labor wouldn't be warrantied. Years ago my father had a civic that he used aftermarket parts on without issues. If it was $50 difference I'd probably just go with Honda parts. If it was $300 difference I'd probably go with AutoZone. But I'm between those numbers at $148 difference. Thoughts and ideas appreciated.
I find that Auto Zone parts are just fine and dandy if you follow this one rule! When you buy the part make sure you buy their top of the line part, not the cheap one.. I worked at Auto Zone for 17 years before I retired from there. Never had come backs if the customers would buy what I suggested..can't say that for the ones who wanted to go the cheap route..
