Default Good way to get the engine mount back on?

Hi all - so I took my driver side engine mount off last weekend for a timing belt replacement and i had a hell of a time getting it back on. eventually it was just dumb luck but i damn near lost a finger in the process.

Is there an easier way to do this other than just jacking the engine up and down until you just "Get lucky?"

thanks!

IIRC, at least one of the studs is extra-long. You can start a nut onto that one, & use that to finish pulling the engine up.

Or were you having an issue with the mount/engine being out of "line" front to back?

I would feed the bolt through the rubber part of the mount first and get the threads started.

Then raise the engine to push the threaded part on the engine bracket and start threading the nut on there. Finally get the bolt started.

I would probably tighten the nut/bolt then finally tighten the through bolt.
