Default Got a problem with 3rd brake light. Anyone?

2000 honda accord 2dr v6. 3rd rear brake light on window mount went out. guys at jiffy lube tried to replace bulb but said something along the lines that i would need a whole new housing unit b/c everytime they put the bulb in it stays lit when applying pressure, but once they remove their hand it goes down again. I saw a few units on ebay for 99 accords, will this fit a 2000 as well? any way to rig this toget it to work again? Thanks

I would take it out and monkey with the contacts before buying a new/used one. Any light from a 98-02 Accord should fit fine.

have the dealer look at it. im pretty sure they know more than the guys at jiffy lube. The bulb in mine blew a year ago and ive been driving around without it since. I think it looks cooler and havent gotten in any trouble with the "man"

Will the same light/housing from this model in 4dr fit?

Also I dont mind that its out, but can I even get pulled over for this? I thought by law you only need 2 brake lights and this is just a 3rd for cosmetic appeal, so maybe I could just pull the light/housing out so it looks like a light was never even there?

The 2 brake lights are you're parking lights with integrated brake lights, the high mount light is the one that tells others you are applying your brakes. Personally, it pisses me off when that light is out, especially on pick-ups. When the sun is hitting the back of the car just right, you can barely see if the lights are one, whereas the 3rd light is somewhat shaded and easier to see. Not sure what the law says, but I bet you $5 you get rear ended sooner than you know it.

That third brake light is placed to be in your line of sight, so you can have more time to react to someone braking in front of you.

i agree, the top brake light is the easiest way to tell if someones braking. the only way to tell by the rear lights is if you see the lights get brighter, as if the headlights are on those lights are on too, they just brighten when the top brake light is out.
i would take it to someone else too, theres a reason jiffy lube is an oil change place.
