1. Possibly low on brake fluid.

2. Switch on the e-brake may be bent or non-functional.

yea definately check the brake fluid level, when the fluid level drops too low it sets off a sensor which turns on your brake light

There is a DIY about notching the screen in the reservoir to eliminate the brake light. You should see if that applies to your model.

Had the exact problem last week on my 99 accord lx.
It was about 2 oz. low in the brake fluid. Topped it off and all is well. Light off.
Used genuine Honda brake fluid too.

Is this an inquiry about the brake light fault detection circuit, or red low brake fluid lamp? I think the former from his description.

If that isthe case, I've seen intermittent brake light bulbs cause this problem. Apparently filament is cracked and opens momentarily due to vibration, setting of the brake lamp out warning. New bulbs are necessary to fix. No way to inspect and find the faulty bulb.

good luck

The warning lamp for the fluid & handbrake are the same, which is the one that lights up when you pull the handbrake handle.

The one for burned-out brake lamps says BRAKE LAMP. It works by comparing wattage side-to-side. Some people have replaced all bulbs back there just so they match each other. Also, dont forget to clean out corrosion/dirt from the bulb sockets.
