Default help....

question, i have a antifreeze leak at the connection from the upper hose to the engine block.......i think this is the correct diagram. I need the gasket, would that be #8 in this pic? Should I just tighten up the water outlet? I did loosen it, but i thought i tightened it.......what do you think??

Yup, it looks like #8 is the gasket. While you're in there you might want to replace the thermostat as well; often times new thermostats come with a gasket.

the thermostat and o-ring are no. 5...no. 8 is just a seal for the engine inlet, the stat is the outlet. which one is leaking?

#8 is leaking, where the upper hose goes from the radiator to the 'outlet'??? There is a sensor in this connector too....i know where the thermostat is, i've already changed that......thanks for the replies...i'm pretty sure #10 is the outlet that the upper hose connects to..

Yes, #8 is the gasket for the upper hose nozzle. But that "gasket" is really a type of O-ring, so overtightening the bolts will do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about leaking (might even break off the tabs on #10). It's probably that the gasket has gotten hardened with age & heat, so it isn't going to seal.

Make sure it's the gasket that's leaking, as opposed to the hose clamp connection.

Incidently, that "sensor" is a fan-switch that has authority to switch the fan after you shut off the engine. #14 is the fan switch while it's running.
