Help ! Should I Keep It or Trade ?
I am the original owner of a 2000 Honda Accord EX-L sedan AUTOMATIC ( 4 cylinder ). The car has 71,500 miles on it and has been reasonably well maintained. I would like to give this car to my son. BUT, the well-known trouble with the automatic transmission has me spooked. The last thing that I want to do is give him a $6000 car that may suddenly need a $3000 - $4000 transmission. I haven't noticed any unusual noises or behavior with the transmission so far. Can anybody tell me how prevalent automatic transmission failure is with my particular car ? Also, is there anything that I can do in the way of a preventative fix ? Should I give it to my son ( and cross my fingers ) OR not risk it and do a trade-in deal ? Any info on the reality of this potential automatic transmission risk would be greatly appreciated.
Well the extended warranty is over with for that trans; if you want to keep it change the trans fluid every 30k miles.
The reason all the main't intervals were extended was for the purpose of better JD Powers ratings.
Keep a close watch on the differential axle seals for trans fluid seepage, that is a common sign of diff bearings going bad.
