Default Hyper flow exhaust on 91 accord EX

I just purchased a 91 Accord EX and the only mod. that the kid did to the car was to remove the stock air intake and put a high flow intake on the car. I know nothing about these and I was wondering if I should try and put the stock air intake back on? The car runs o.k. but I want to get the best mileage out of the car that I can and of course, the longest life out of the engine! I asked him about it and he said the aftermarket air intake might even give me a little better mileage and better throttle response. There is also a little air filter that pokes up from the valve cover. It's shaped like a upside down cone. Not sure what that is for either! All I know about these aftermarket air intakes is that the air filters for them are really expensive! Thanks for any suggestions.

OEM air filter will give equal performance and better air filtration for longer engine life, IMO. Google for a million opinions and a few facts. Primary benefit of OEM air intake assy is noise reduction, so unless you like the sound, ditch it.

good luck

Honestly, put the OEM back on if you can. They removed the OEM system, and had to put a small breather on the valve cover since it was originally plumbed into the OEM intake system. Most of those "cold air intake" systems are actually more like a "hot air intake", since 9 out of 10 place the open air filter inside the engine compartment where all of the heat is. If you were to look at the OEM setup, they have a duct that pulls air from the inner fender, the front of the radiator, or some other true source of fresh air.

Thats a good point about the intake air source, never thought of that! Now if I can just get the kid I bought it from to give me the rest of the parts for the old intake , I can get started on putting it back together! It's like a puzzle and I haven't been able to find a good diagram of the air intake so I know how it exactly fits back together. Thanks for the help !
