Default i need help

i have a 98 accord with a 5 speed manual transmission it has been great for me up until 2 days ago. I have no problems with shifting but when I press the accelerator my rpms shoot through the roof but none of the power will transfer into forward movement. I've talked to several people and no one has heard of anything like this ever happening. also it has i greasy burning smell to it. If anyone knows what could be causing this to happen please let me know

Do you mean when you release the clutch, the engine revs but car does not move? You need to be precise in your description of what's happening.

A totally failed clutch would shift OK, but would not engage engine to transmission (clutch plate shafttered and in pieces). Any high revving hard shifts lately?

good luck

my guess....

Leaking rear main seal putting oil onto clutch plate which has ruined it.

Or maybe just a worn out clutch beginning to slip.
