I have been driving this car like this ever since I got it, 2-1/2 years. Ignition switch functions as it should but the key slides out from any position it is in. I was not too concerned about this but prospective buyer may say something.

Is there any way I can fix existing key/lock assembly? Or, do I need to replace it. Is this something I can get from a junk yard? Or, do I need to go to the dealer?

 

sounds like you will probably want a new barrel. you may want to change the door and boot locks if you do this so you dont have 2 keys to open and start the car (RC locking aside). has the car ever been stolen? wil it only work with that key or will many things turn the ignition?

 

As far as I know, I am the second owner of the car. The first owner never informed me of it being stolen or subjected to vandalism. The key is original key with Honda logo and it opens doors and trunk as well. I tried other key from a Civic on the ignition but was not able to turn it.

 

There's a DOT rule that says the key isn't supposed to be able to be removed while the car is turned on. There's lots of buyers who don't know that or don't care.

There's been recall campaigns about lock cylinders. Check a dealer - any dealer. With the VIN he can look up whether your car qualifies for a new cylinder for free, or whether it's already been done.

Whatever the case, it's the lock cylinder that's worn & sloppy, especially long-term use with a heavy keychain.

Even if you buy a new lock cylinder, you may be able to find a locksmith to re-key it to match all your doors & trunk.

Well I haven't made the call to the dealer, regards to the key issue I have, yet. But I did some "recall" research on the subject. The ignition key recall I have found on Accords are not applicable to my car.
