Default intermittent ambient light

My ambient light works, then doesn't work. I've changed the bulb with no change. The map lights work just fine. It will blink if I tap on the cover, but will not stay on reliably. (03 EX V6).

Are you referring to the ambient/courtesy light as shown in the illustration?

That's the one. The light really helps to see the console at night, but buying a new home-link for $400 is out of the question.

That light consist of an LED and resistor. It may be a solder joint contact issue at the unit or a wire connection issue. You can try to inspect the solder joints and re-touch the solder. Also inspect the 10P green wire connector wire and terminals; terminal no. 1 (Red wire) is the ground source and terminal no. 4 (Red/Blk wire) is the power/voltage source for the light.

Thanks, I will check the wires out, but I have never soldered anything in my life. I hope that's not the problem. I guess I could always learn how. Is that wire (Red/Blk) just for the ambient light, because the map lights work fine. Would electrical cleaner spray be advisable here?

Spray electrical contact cleaners are safe, as they dry fast.

The Red/Blk and Red wires are on the same circuit as dash and console lights that can be dimmed. The map lights are on different wiring circuit, as they cannot be dimmed.

OK I'll check those wires and spray some cleaner on it tomorrow, and let you know how it goes. Thanks.

You can remove the unit, examine, and possibly clean that too.

You probably should first disconnect the negative battery cable if you decide to spray cleaner on any wire terminals at that connector. The power side for the interior lights at that connector is hot at all times.

OK. Thanks. I'm going to take the thing apart, and clean everything.
