Default Intermittent Starting Issue

I have been having an intermittent starting issue for the past few weeks. I will go out to my car in the morning put in the key and turn and the car will not trun over. I hear a click and then nothing. I try again and the same thing. I'll try again and it starts right up. My first guess was my starter going bad but I took it to my local big box auto parts store to have them check the battery/alternater/starter and they came back that I had a bad battery (I had the original Hondabattery in the car that lasted for 10 years so I wasn't too dissapointed)I got a new battery thinking that my problem was solved the the same thing happend the next morning. Anyone have an suggestions.

My car is a 1998 Accourd Ex, 2.3L VTEC, 5-spd. Does this still sound like a starter motor that is going bad? It looks like it is the original.

Thanks for the help.

I have the same car and the same issue EVERY morning or pretty much every time I start the car. I first thought it was the typical Honda flaky ignition switch issue, but lately I'm thinking it's the switch on the clutch pedal to close the starter circuit.

1. Try wiggling/twisting your key to force the ignition switch contacts together.
2. Push the clutch really hard.

So I just got in the car to leave work and I have new symptom to report. I started the car and the starter motor did not disengage after it started. I had to start and turn off the car twice to get it to disengage. I am really leaning towards a bad starter at this point.

The single click is a definite sign of a bad starter. You should be able to replace the solenoid and contacts for an inexpensive fix.
