RE: Leaking oil

Well the mechanic isn't totallys sure it's the cam seal yet. Told me to bring it to him on Thursday so he can have a closer look at it. Only showed him where it was leaking yesterday. According to you I hope it is the valve cover gasket so I won't have to pay as much.

If you are mechanically inclined at all, I'd go buy the valve cover gasket set ($25) and some gasket sealer ($4) and do that first. It's only an hour or so of your time and under $30. If it still leaks then go for the cam seal. That said, if they are going far enough to do the cam seal then you kight as well get the whole job. Balancer shaft seals, crank seal, and new belts. That's my $0.02 anyway, YMMV.

Woooooooow are you serious? I wouldn't think that would cost much more than $1000 in my area on an accord. Can't imagine the Odyssey being that much more expensive.

vans..the engine is tucked away so you have to dismantle a couple-3 more pieces to get to everything.

RE: Leaking oil

i find the odyssey t-belt easier than the accord. the pilot is a breeze too, you have just alittle bit more room by the rear timing cover. the rest is history.

keep in mind our t-belt is 5.0 labor plus all the parts(coolantx2, tensioner, pulley, tensioner pulley, water pump, t belt, ps belt, alt belt = about $1200)

105k service = 5.5 labor(valve adjustment requires the upper intake to be removed)

that's already $1200 in labor alone. add in the brakes and oil change it's $1500 labor.

RE: Leaking oil

Well the honda dealer in my area does the timing belt for $600. That includes timing belt, water pump, coolant, valves adjustment, balance belts, AC/alternator/power steering belts, valve cover gasket, and all drive belts. The 105k service won't cost more than $200 and I'm not sure how much they charge for replacing the rear drums and shoes. I do know that they charge $100 to replace the front brake pads and machine the rotors.
