low a/c air volume

low a/c air volume
My 1990 Accord a/c blows nice cold air, the problem is not very much, even when the fan is on high. It makes a lot of noise like its blowing a lot of air, but its not. All of the fan speeds work but the volume feels like its always on low even though I can hear the fan going faster. Help!

Most likely the evaporator coils are clogged w/ over 20 yrs of dust and dirt. Also it is likely that small leaks exist around expansion valve and thermal feedback bulb orings. These allow system to leak oil and attract more dirt. I found these oring leaks on both 1990 and 1994 evaporators when I removed to repair the leaks.
Fix is to recover refrigerant from AC, remove evaporator housing, remove/clean (or replace) evaporator, replace all expansion valve orings, reinstall evaporator into housing, reinstall housing, and finally vacuum/recharge system w/ refrigerant.
It may be possible for the vent door to get out of position and block air flow to vents. Have you tried cycling the outlet selection to see if vent door is working OK?
good luck

No, evaporator housing must be removed to access evaporator inside the housing. It's not a bad job, but AC charge must be removed to allow evaporator connections to be released on engine side of firewall.
good luck
