Maint Req'd light
ORIGINAL: JimBlake
I've never heard of a way to program it to go off sooner. Further, you can't clear it if it's not yet going off. If you change oil early, and the warning isn't going off, you can't clear it.

it has nothing to do with the actual oil change. Put it like this, the light is set to a timer that will automatically make the light come on every 7500 miles. You can only reset it once it turns on. There is nothing wrong with the car, the light just comes on 7500 miles after the last time it was turned off. You cannot reset the timer until the light comes on again. then you reset it. Then it will come on again after another 7500 miles.
^^^ What he said!
Just to make everyone jealous, the tC allows this to be set in 1000 mile increments. The proceedure is listed under "chicken dances" .... no joke!

It comes on every 7500 miles, indicating your due for a service, Depending onmaint. schedule, Some are minor services such as a 37,500 mile service and 52,500 mile service which include oil change rotate tires and check brakes, intermediate services at 15,000, 45,000, 75,000 miles which include, oil change, rotate, check brakes, replace/check air filter and alignment, Then you have the major services such as 30k, 60k, 90k, 120k etc. These include oil change, rotate, check brakes, replace brake fluid, replace coolant, replace transmission fluid, check/replace air filter, alignment, and depending on model valve adjust, (v6's do not need valve adjustments, 4cyl's do).

The directions say to press the reset button with the key off, then turn the key on, and keep holding the button down for 10 seconds more. That will reset the maintenance required light.
