Default Maintenance

My car has 53K miles on it. Do I need to change the spark plugs and the fuel filter?
Winter is coming up so I would like to get these little things done before it gets too cold.

Thanks.

You don't have to change the plugs until 105K, even at that mileage they're probably still good for another 50K. Never changed the fuel filter and I'm at 225K miles. You should probably check your air filter. I perform a plug, distributor cap, rotor and wire change every 100K miles. Bought these parts form Autozone and when I do the maintenance, the only thing I have to purchase are plugs. They give me everything else because they have a lifetime warranty.

Your car should have maintenance minders, where it would say service A or service B, etc on the dash. Your owner's manual should say what should be done for each service.

Yup, there should be a maintenance required light that lets you know when service is needed. But, the owners manual is your friend.

I bought the car used so there is no service manual unfortunately. How do I know the reminders are turned on? If not can I turn them on? Thanks.

Try e-bay for an owners manual. I had to do that with my wife's 2000 Accord.

Simply google your cars model and year "2005 accord owners manual" for instance and you'll be able to print yourself a copy. I'm **** with some things and even though it was probably way early at around 50,000 miles I had the transmission fluid and coolant changed by the dealer. I realize it's "extended use" stuff these days but it just makes me sleep a little better.
