Question MICE eating the TCU in 91 Accord!??!

Got my poor old accord back to hocking hills, and to my trusted mechanic. ("S" light was on, then could barely get it out of park)
He just called to tell me he was down under the carpet, passenger side, to check the TCU, and found several MOUSE NESTS and evidence of them chewing on wires down there! Wtf!?! Anyone heard of this?
He also discovered that the Shift assembly is very old (it's a '91 Accord) and tired. Solution for that was going to a junkyard, which he doesn't like doing, as there is no history with pulled parts.
Any suggestions? Anyone want to buy the car? It's got so many other new parts, I'm not sure what the heck to do!
Suggestions? Tips? Any and all input appreciated!
MICE! LOL not funny, but well, kinda funny....

Yes, mice are not uncommon problem to all makes of cars. Repair of damaged wires is solution.

I would not hesitate to use a used AT? shift switch mechanism if OEM part were very expensive, but the OEM part is only $43 plus shipping. Considering labor to replace, I would go w/ new part.

good luck

Thanks Texas! Is OEM the same thing as Shift Assembly? Yes, I'm a girl, and no, I don't know much about cars....

OEM is original equipment manufacturer or Honda part in this case.

good luck

I hate this topic. I keep a mouse trap in my cabin and in my trunk.
Look around and there a few improved m. traps
that work better in a car situation, imo.

Honda also sells a rodent repellant tape to wrap your spark plugs wires in.
My problem is 40% mice and 60% cottontail rabbits.

I can see rodents getting to the engine bay wiring.

I wonder where mice are entering the cabin? There can't be too many spots. HVAC air intake? Gaps in grommets on the firewall?

[A] Go back to him and ask! And have him tell you which years he's speaking about.

[B] My own problem is my neighbors put carrots out daily to feed the rabbits, and then use an air horn to frighten away the hawks. Sheesh.
