Motor Mounts + Transmission Mount Replace
my mechanic says I need 2 Motor Mounts and a Transmission mount for my 1995 Honda Accord LX 2.7L. I am taking it to another mechanic for a second opinion but would love any insight especially on the transmission.
does the transmission need to be dropped to replace mount? is there on 1 mount for the transmission? are there risks of dropping the transmission to do the replace, as this mount has never been replaced. are there any filters, or parts that can be updated/replaced if the transmission gets dropped for a new mount? my car has the following: Transmission: KA 4AT. the car has 152,000,
they want to charge me $40 for the Transmission mount, $115 for a rear motor mount, and then $240.00 for a front mount (this seems excessive). any idea on how many hours labor it would be to replace front + real mount + transmission mount?
are there any particular brands of Mounts I should use? I know nothing about engine mounts lol
thanks very much!

The transmission doesn't need to be removed to replace the mount. There aren't any serviceable parts on the transmission. I'm pretty sure you have to take apart the transmission to change the filter, so it is definitely not worth it. With automatic transmissions, just change the fluid as recommended in the owner's manual and use the recommended fluid.
I remember reading some cheap aftermarket mounts caused engine vibration to be transferred to the car, so the car may ride rougher. Was the price for each mount for the part and labor?

the prices I mentioned were for parts only. do they seem high? I look on Rock Auto and Parts Geek and can obviously buy them for less. any particular brands of Mounts do you recommend? dont want engine vibrations for sure. motor runs like its brand new.
most places ive taken the car to dont suggest replacing the trans fluid as I neglected to change at recommended as I bought the car long ago with 73,000 miles on it. I did a flush once, but everyone says if I do it now I may create a problem. the fluid is very clean. any suggestions here?
OEM motor mounts are probably the best. Check out OEM prices on a site like hondapartsnow.com. Even used OEM mounts are an option if on a budget as long as the rubber doesn't look dry rotted.
I remember NOK made the original motor mounts, but I don't know how easy it is to find that particular brand. The prices you quoted seem reasonable for the parts, but use the honda site as a reference for price. The expensive mount is liquid filled and has a vacuum actuator to adjust the stiffness of the mount. The aftermarket versions may be solid and cause the vibration, but will be less expensive.

I found the OEM mounts on PartsGeek.com. $1000 for both front and rear. no thank you! lol. they also have Beck/Arnley, DEA and Westar brands. RockAuto has the same brands. it shows the Rear mount with and without Vacuum Switch/Assist. I assume I do not need Vacuum switch/assist.
Look at your rear motor mount to see if it has a vacuum line to it. If it does, you need vacuum assist. I think the manual transmission accords didn't have the vacuum assist.
Be careful that you are looking for parts for the V6 accord and not the 4-cyl. I don't think the V6 came with a manual transmission.

DEA has this listed on Partsgeek both listed for 2.7L. both total about $300. the same parts OEM would be $1000 which I wont spent on 2 mounts as I need the transmission as well plus paying labor. unfortunately dont see Beck/Arnley for 2.7L.

Oh by the way, when you change the motor mount. I think you need to support the transmission or the motor with a jack and piece of wood. Also, about the transmission fluid, you could be okay to do a drain and refill. Not a flush, you would be replacing only about 30 to 40 percent of the fluid. If the fluid is clean its probably okay to do at least a drain and a refill. Ask a mechanic about that to see what his opinion on it is. The rumor that transmission fluid ruins a transmission is probably from someone using a low quality transmission fluid or not the right type. So the clutches probably wear out more. And that also that if the transmission fluid is dirty its using that old material already with a worn out clutch and so when you replace it the clean fluids causes the transmission fluid to slip because it doesn't have the old fluid to bind to. Again, do your research on this and ask your mechanic just in case.
And yeah it is a pain to find a decent price on some quality parts. Been there and done that, and still doing that. Heh. I got a outer tie rod ball joint boot that already cracked that I replaced 3 years ago. I still got to figure out what part that was. But I'm dealing with other issues first.
