My Mom killed my 89 honda
Hello Everyone
This is my first post and I write it with great sadness...I let my mom drive my 89 honda accord and she didn't take care of it...here is what went wrong. There was a small hole in the radiator she didn't notice and car overheated she took it to her mechanic and he told me there is a blown head gasket and the car is only running on two cylinders...the mechanic told me it wasn't worth fixing BUT this car is calling me to fix it and drive it once again. I have never done a DOHC before but I'm going to give it a try. My question is will overheating this car do any other damage besides blowing the head gasket. I know I will have to change the tranny fluid. All opinions are welcome

The cylinder head should be a SOHC. If you are going to replace the head gasket, I would take the head to a machine shop to have it milled so it is perfectly flat. Also have them inspect the valves, etc, because the valve stem seals could also be replaced while the cylinder head is out.
Hard to tell what damage might have been done. Once you are sure it is the head/gasket-once off best bet is to have the head checked-cracks-valves-straight-ect by a machine shop. Then decide, have the machine shop fix it-get a rebuilt head or one from a junk yard.
YOU will have to search for prices and make the decision on what to do-Repair Manual (if you don't already have one), fluids, machine work or rebuilt head, time, tools, ect-then since you are there, t-belt, water pump. After getting all of that, decide if it is worth it-miles and how much more you think you can get out of it- all of mine are going with over 200K.
EDIT:Slow at typing again-Thanks PA
