So the starter is spinning slower when the engine is warm vs when it is cold?

I'd check and clean the cables just to be sure.....but this does sound like starter is starting to go.

Did you have AutoZone check the starter when you were there? If not - go back and have them do a test on the starter also..

I think Poorman's looking for a better description besides "it struggles".

Starter spins the engine more slowly??

Starter spins the engine OK but it doesn't fire?

Starter spins OK, engine fires, but doesn't stay running?

That'll help to decide the overall direction of what things's to check.

I would say starter spins but it takes it awhile to fire engine while I'm holding the key to turn on. After that it stays running.

Should've asked before, but is this 4-cyl or V-6? (I think the LX was available with either engine)

How many miles? How old are the spark plugs? (What kind of plugs are installed?) (There's about all there is to a "tune-up" these days.)

You have to assure it gets a spark (check plugs to assure this)and that it gets fuel,(check the fuel pump to show fuel is being delivered. Other than that there is not too much remaining.
