I believe the fuel filter is attached to the fire wall just kind of hanging there... If you are sure that it's inside of the tank I'd also take your cap/rotor off and make sure that it's not excessivly worn/black. If it is then I'd replace that as well. I doubt that the cap/rotor are causing your issues but if it's been that long then it needs to be done anyway.

As far as fixing the issue goes I'd get a fuel pressure guage on it and see if the pressure is dropping drastically or if it's something else. Write down and post the numbers it gives you on here and someone can tell you wether or not to worry.

Another thing to check would be your Mass Air Flow sensor. Check the connections and make sure they appear normal. I had a Toyota Camry one time that exhibited the exact same symptoms as yours when I left the MAF sensor unplugged after removing and cleaning the air intake assembly. It would crank but would then immediately stall after a second or two. You could also try cleaning the sensor with some Intake/Throttle Body cleaner. I actually just ran out of a can that I had... I want to say it was the Gumout brand... but I used it to clean the MAF of a Ford Explorer I used to have and it worked great. Anyway, just a thought and another avenue to explore... the only problem with that is I would imagine the CEL would be on if it was faulty... HTH

While your rebuilding all those parts above this post...why dont you take a look at something else that makes cars have your problem.
It's called the IAC or Idle Air Control valve..it is one of the causes that makes cars have the same symtoms that your having .

When it's all said and done and your still not sure...then it's time to get yourself a diagnostic specialists who has the right kind of Knowledge and Equipment and Knows how to use it.

chk angine lite on?? any codes ?? when car does not start you need to determine if it is lack of fuel or spark......I have had a couple of bad main relays on a 99 accord v6

and to reply to Sir nasty comment on the fuel filter location,,,,,,,,,,,starting in 98 fuel filters are in the tank , last year for the fuel filters to be located in the engine compartment was 1997 ( 94-97) located below brake master cylinder ( 90-93) on firewall below emission box next to charcoal canister

check engine light does not has not came on at all and no codes. Could it be a relay? I have been looking online and it seems like you cant change the fuel filter because they dont sell replacements. What are the symptoms of a bad fuel pump?

the good news is that I found out that there is an acsess for the fuel tank in the under the carpet in the trunk. makes things alot easier. bad news is that the only place where I can get the fuel filter is from the dealer. they also have to order it and it will take about a week. So im going to have to deal with the problem for another week.

That filter (#7) is like a fine mesh bag. You can probably clean it off, but that means taking it out AGAIN when you get the new one...
