My 89 accord will not shift into any gear at random times while parked. After starting and warming the car and driving off, about half the time it will not want to shift into gear after coming to a stop. Also, when parked then restarted it will be difficult to shift into first gear and when finally engaged in neutral the car wants to creep forward as if the clutch is engaged although i have the clutch pedal to the floor. AND....... at other times it behaves perfectly normally. I've adjusted the clutch cable per spec ( or as close as i can get it). any help appreciated.
Thanks

The common way for a clutch plate to wear out is to get thin, then the clutch will slip.

Less common, but still possible, the clutch can get warped so it drags a bit when disengaged. In other words, when you have the clutch pedal pressed to the floor, the warped or frayed parts of the clutch disk drag on the flywheel & pressure plate. Your description sounds like this.

Thanks, of all the possibilites i had not considered a warped disc/pres plate. Guess I'll pull the tranny and check it out. I had to really back out the cable when i first got the car because it was way too tight undoubtably putting a constant load on the throw out bearing and likely letting the clutch slip and generate a lot of heat leading to warpage. Hope it doesnt cost me a flywheel.

thanks again
