Did you do any work on the car before the problem started?

There is an excellent site in a sticky post at the top of the general tech forum that has a site called www.tegger.com and has a lot of information about starting problems. There is one test in there where you can hook up a 12v bulb in place of the coil and make sure that the igniter is switching on and off properly.

If you replaced the dist. and coil, then there has to be a problem upstream of those items. Did you replace the distributor cap and rotor?

Ignition switch or battery would be my first two choices. I would also check and clean the battery cables on the battery posts, ground (on radiator support near battery) and the connections at the engine bay fuse box.

i bought the car the way it is... i didnt replace the cap and rotor.. with coil being external , i figured the coil would produce spark without them being new..

Does this help any.

First, I tested
the old distributor. The pickup is an input to the ecm, the
ecm then pulses the igniter and the igniter then pulses the
ignition coil. There are three coils inside the distributor
(crank, TDC, and coil)and a igniter. I tested the three
coils for an ac voltage when cranking. They all passed with
a spec between .5 to 1.5 volts. Next I tested for a pulse
coming out of the ecm using a logic probe(an oscilliscope
can also be used). There was a pulse coming out of the ecm.
This eliminated the pickup and the ecm. I then tested for a
pulse coming out of the igniter. There was none. This told
me that the igniter was bad. These accords have problems
with distributor bearings also. I decide to replace the
whole distributor as a unit due to theses common problems
and the mileage. About half the responses said use oem
parts and the other half said use aftermarket parts are ok.
Due to the cost of oem I got a Cardone reman. for $150.00
with a lifetime warranty. I put the unit on the vehicle and
the vehicle started right up.

Are you testing for spark by pulling a plug and grounding it on the engine?
