Oil on spark plug wires?
hmm, is this normal, because mine has this a little bit, butpower is still good on car and there is no difference, my freinds 93 EX is the same way as mine, so is this normal or are any seals worn? but what are the odds that this happens on 3 of the cars that i know of?
thanks |
RE: Oil on spark plug wires?
If you search the site, you will see it happens a lot. Oil shouldn't get on the spark plug wires. The seals on the valve cover get brittle and start leaking. There is a post in the DIY section about this.

RE: Oil on spark plug wires?
as long as it's not a lot of oil you can leave it if your short on $$. if it's a lot of oil it can cause an engine fire. the oil saturates the plug wire boots and causes spark to ground to the head. i've had two engine fires from that so far, it's rare...but happens.

eek, i gotta fix that, so its just the valve cover gasket?

RE: Oil on spark plug wires?
yeah, pretty much. my accord had the same problem and my mechanic changed the valve cover gasket and the rocker arm seal or something and it seems fine now

RE: Oil on spark plug wires?
you'll need the vc gasket, spark plug tube upper seals and spark plug tube lower seals, and hondabond.

ORIGINAL: HondatechAV6 you'll need the vc gasket, spark plug tube upper seals and spark plug tube lower seals, and hondabond. For those of us who can't get/afford hondabond, what is a suitable alternative? |
RE: Oil on spark plug wires?
I used Permatex non-hardening gasket sealer (on advice from some folks here) and it worked fine. It's not the same as the RTV silicone.

RE: Oil on spark plug wires?
I haven't done a ton of honda gaskets but I've always used High Temp RTV on my other vehicles when I needed it....

RE: Oil on spark plug wires?
I've been told that Permatex GREY gasket goop is about the same. I've used it & it worked.
