The car can be driven normally if the light is steady (not blinking) and just on; but, you should get the trouble code read if the malfunction indicator light (MIL) remains.
Generally, if a fault is detected in two consecutive drive cycles, then the MIL will come on. If in subsequent drive cycles, and the fault is not detected, the light may go off.
If the light is blinking, then the car shouldn't be driven, as this can cause engine damage. If it is blinking, then get it checked ASAP.

I was the one that mentioned the battery; but, I was referring to the battery hold-downs nut, bolts, and bracket. I made that mistake on my dad's Toyota years ago when I was younger, after I replaced his car battery. The Check Engine Light came on a few days later. I brought it to a mechanic and he said no code showed up; but, he noticed the new battery. The mechanic told me to reinstalled the battery with the hold-downs and make sure the battery didn't move. After I did that, it had no problems. Your problem may or may not have to do with the battery; but, when you mentioned removing the reinstalling the battery, it brought back memories.

It can't hurt to check the battery cables.
If you can't get it scanned until Saturday, check the oil and coolant level (remove the radiator cap to check coolant). Also check that the transmission fluid it at the proper level.
You don't want to run your car with low fluid levels.

It can't hurt to check the battery cables.

Also, I would still stop by the parts store and have the codes read. Codes are stored in memory even when the check engine light turns off. It may give you an idea of what caused the light to turn on in the first place.

Depending on what caused the CEL to come on, it'll turn off by itself if the problem goes away. That is, if it was just an electrical glitch, or if you actually fixed it. It should be stored in memory, but sometimes the problem just never repeats itself.

You mean anti freeze? The H and C meter always is almost near the middle.
