Overheated, Now Won't Start

Default Overheated, Now Won't Start

I have seen others post with somewhat similar problems, but since this could be something different, I am asking this.

My 1994 Accord EX VTEC overheated with a split heater hose right where it enters the intake manifold. I replaced the hose and refilled coolant. There seems to be no more overheating problem, but now the thing doesn't start most of the time and sometimes stalls. I have heard of this problem and tried the main relay fix. That didn't work. I have been reading about the possibility that it very well could be the ECU. I have found a good deal on one, but it is for a manual transmission Accord and mine is an Automatic. First of all, can someone tell me if they think it is the ECU or possibly some sensor around the coolant leak? Second, will an ECU from a manual transmission Accord work ok with an auto?

The manual transmission ECU will not work on your car.

How long was the car overheating?

check the oil dip stick look at the oil should be oil color if you see bubbles or the oil is a milky color you need to replace the head gasket or You mite want to bleed the cooling system thats if you havent done it already?if not then you need to! this does effect the system,
So if you dont know how this is what you do...if you look just above the thermostat housing in front of it you will see a bleeder valve, a size 12mm socket you will need to loosen it.
start the car if possible then loosen the bleeder valve,coolant will come out of the valve,then you will see nothing come out,only when you see coolant coming out at a steady stream then tighten the valve.

No sign of coolant in oil. I'll try bleeding and update. The overheating was originally a stuck thermostat that I replaced, but apparently the heater hose was the weakest link. Too bad about the ecu. I'll keep looking for a good deal on an automatic one.

And you do know there is 1 correct way that the thermostat is installed rite?the little bell thing facing you at 12o'clock

So the car started and ran after you replaced the hose...correct.

The issue now is that it will sometimes not start and then sometimes will stall - but when it does run there is no over heating.....correct?

Correct. It would start and not hesitate or puff smoke as if a cylinder was flooded. lately, it just won't start at all. It cranks hard, and if I floor the pedal while I'm cranking it over, it cranks fast, but when I let go of the key, it dies. I am wondering if maybe it's the ignition coil. Any thoughts?

Kind of sounds like the elect part of the ign switch might be bad.

Key in position II/On, check for 12v on the BLK/YEL wire going to the dist. EDIT: If you have power to the dist - then check for spark at the plugs.

I'm "keying" on your statement that it "seems" the engine runs but at the moment you release the key from Start to On it dies.
