Default Overheating problems

Got a 95 2.2 Accord with 50k miles, it over heated, so I replaced the radiator, upper and lower hoses plus the t-stat, then figured out the head gasket was bad. I took it to be replaced. Prior to all of this, the temp gauge consistently sat at about 1/8 of an inch below the midrange mark on the dash gauge, the mechanic told me not to worry till it goes over the 3/4 point on the gauge. It does that now, especially while sitting at a light.

My question is, after all this and I know the fan is working, what could be happening? Is there something Else that needs replaced and how do I check it because I can't afford to take it back to the shop
