P0302 #2 Cyl misfire
I have a 2001 Accord 2.3 (4cyl.) LX, AT with 290000 miles. I was getting an EGR code only. I tried to clean the EGR valve several times and sprayed throttle cleaner in the egr hole in the intake. I kept getting the same results (EGR code). I then pulled the fuel rail twice in an attempt to remove it so as to take the intake off and check the egr passages. Both times I put the fuel rail back as there were too many wires that needed to be removed. I then pulled the throttle body off and removed the plenum (EGR hole was plugged with a tarry substance) and cleaned real good with throttle body cleaner. I also filled the passage going from the plenum to the EGR valve with throttle cleaner and blew it out with compressed air. I replaced the EGR valve with a new one and then got a code stating #2 & #4 cylinder misfire. I replaced the spark plugs, plug wires, rotor, & distributor cap. Now I have a P0302 (#2 cylinder misfire). What should I try next? Thanks!

Check that the electrical connector for fuel injector #2 isn't messed up. Make sure it is connected properly.
Do you get a strong smell of fuel when the engine is running? It is possible that the o-ring on that injector didn't seat properly.

Yep! No smell or sign of fuel leakage on any injectors and from what I can see down there, no loose o-rings. Did not remove injector electrical connections, but did push to make sure their seated goot-n-tight! Also double and triple checked plug wire. Put in NGK platinum (Top of the line from Oreilly's) and checked that gap was at 0.040 as per the book that came with the car! The new distributor cap was for a Hitachi which I had on originally. Had OReilly's reset check engine light last night and then drove to work today. Check engine light flashed when getting heavy on the foot feed a couple times however, check engine did not stay lit! I drive 49 miles one way to work with a about 7 red lights to slow me down. Average speed about 70 MPH.

CYL #2 Misfire
Oh yeah, I almost forgot....I put in a bottle of Lucas injector cleaner just before my last post in case I accidentally got oil/dirt on injectors when pushing the back into postion. I never really completely pulled the fuel rail all the way of. i just removed the bolts to it and pulled them out a little. Too many wires on each end and was'nt sure if I really wanted to take that all the way off. Also, as I said I cleaned the plenum and the one passage going to the egr valve but did not remove the intake. Are there egr gas passages in the intake where it connects to the heads that need to be cleaned?

Drove home and on the way the check engine light came on and stayed on. Guess I'll go back to Oreilly's to get the code tommorow AM. I had the cruise control on doing 70 mph on fairly flat terrain. Car felt like it was running good and on all 4 cylinders!
