Pirelli 205/60/R16 on my Honda Accord '06
A friend wants to give me their winter Pirelli's which are 205/55/R16 versus the Honda Manufacturer's recommended size of of 205/60/R16.
Can I safely use them? I heard that you can but there are some things like odometer and speed that may be off.
I don't care about that as long as they are safe.
Any and all advise appreciated. They're free so saying no would be heartbreaking since I don't have money to buy new tires.
Thanks,
Andrea

Speed rating is how fast you can go on the tires on your car. If the new tires have a higher speed rating, then you are good. Your accord should take H or V rated tires.
Look at the speed rating chart on wikipedia:

You're amazing ... thanks so much. I'll have to check in daylight for my existing tires and then I guess I have to check the winter one as well.
So H or V are good, right? The Pirelli's came off a VW Gti.

So if the Pirelli's are an H that's not good anymore?
I haven't gotten the information off the tires but went on the VW site looking for tires that were R16 and those are the spec's they gave. Didn't give the speed rating though.
Parts Specials - Offers & Specials - Fifth Avenue Auto Haus Ltd.
They are Pirelli and not NordFrost but that's the tire size for a VW Gti from 1999 - 2011 ... so I'm pretty sure that's what they are.

Winter tires are always a slower speed rating. Say Q or T or maybe H.
Are you using them for winter tires or are you using them year-round? (because you can't afford any tires)? If you use them in summer, then worry about the speed rating.
If your car came with V tires, that doesn't mean it has to have em. Your owners manual probably says something. But really it just means you need to keep your speed down below the rating of the tire.

I see ...
I am using them only for winter driving and have dealer all seasons for the rest of year. I certainly wouldn't trust them in the snowy winters we experience.
Thanks guys ... appreciate the input. I'll let you know how it goes.
