Plan of attack
Looking for some advice on what to tackle next....
My 2000 accord has been slowly loosing oil, no leaking, no visible burning or burning smell: The gas peddle started sticking so I checked the air intake valve which was all clogged...and cleaned it. I also replaced the pcv valve which was not working. I figured this would take care of everything but I am still loosing oil and the air intake is clogged again. - The engine searches in idle and there is definitely a loss of power. - Spark plugs are dry and new. My next step would be to replace the IAC. Any suggestions? |
RE: Plan of attack
Check for evidence of oil in your antifreeze? Look in radiator, not just in overflow bottle.
What brand of spark plugs? |
RE: Plan of attack
Oh should've mentioned that....no oil in the radiator either.
Spark plugs, not sure actually, I just went to walmart and got was was in the part catalog.....but there is no oil in there when I changed them. |
RE: Plan of attack
Hondas really seem to work best on NGK plugs. People havereported problems with Bosch.

Thanks for the heads up.
I know the oil is getting in there somehow, there are several tubes that lead into the air intake manifold. Has anyone experienced a gunky intake valve after replaceing the pcv valve? |
RE: Plan of attack
Check the crankcase vent line #4 - oily? This is the only source of oil upstream of the throttle that I can think of. Normal airflow is towards the valve cover. But with blowby or WOT, it reverses direction.
If PCV valve (#2) was bad, maybe that line remains clogged? http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/...13S820_E08.gif |
RE: Plan of attack
I'd run a bottle of Seafoam and Marvel Mystery oil to clean things up. Check compression for blow-by. Change oil and install a new crush-washer on the plug.
