Power steering pump ??

Power steering pump ??
I have a terrible noise comming from, what I think is power steering pump when the car is cold. After a while (20 mins) it reduces significantly. I think it's PS pump because I get more noise when turning the steering wheel. I've looked under the hood, and it seems to be comming from a unit that sits right on top of the engine and is the top unit on the belt. It has hoses going out both sides and they are rubber hoses, and brings me some pause. Is this the power steering pump? Any ideas on what a replacement might be and how difficult to change out? What pricing I could expect to have someone change it for me?
Thanks

The year/model of your vehicle will help greatly with this.
Power steering pumps do make loud whining noises when they go bad. They can be rebuilt usually for pretty cheap or replaced for not too much. The cost of a replacement really depends on the year/model. You can check rockauto.com for a price. They are pretty easy to replace and I would expect to pay $100-200 in labor for a shop to replace it.

If noise is growling/whining sound, you likely are pulling air into PS pump which causes the noise and affects the steering.
Usual fault is the oring on the suction inlet fitting or other defect near the inlet. At this point suction pressure is less than atmospheric and air can leak into PS fluid.
This can also be caused by a leak allowing fluid level to decline to point where air gets pulled in from reservoir.
good luck

2004 accord v6. Thanks for responses. I found pumps for about $100 at on line places. The wierd thing is it seems to only happen in the morning after car has sat. From morning to lunch time (work day) sitting the noise is much less to nothing. Anyone done the switch? What would I need to watch out for?
Thanks again

Here's a crude copy of the TSB. Change that o-ring, and it will probably solve your noise. The new o-ring should be orange. I used the boxed end of a 10mm wrench between the belts coming off the power steering pump. Good luck

Thanks for all the help and responses. I hope this can help others. Unfortunitly the Honda was totaled in a traffic accident on Saturday. Everyone was unharmed but the car is toast. My wife was at a stoplight and someone just ran into the back of the car. The rescue folks say these Hondas are good cars to be in an accident. They have seen more people walk away from Hondas than any other car. So I guess we will look for another one. This was our first.
