Default power steering pump failure

How is everybody in the forum, my honda accord for sometime have been difficult turning the steering mostly at bends, it appears hard when turning it. Initially i thought it was the steering rack that was making it difficult to turn the steering, because the steering rack has been leaking fluid gradually for the past three years. But three days ago the situation becomes worst and close observation reveals the power steering pump had failed and the belt connecting it were severed. So all along the gradual failing of the pump has been the one responsible for the hard turning of the steering not as a result of the leaking steering rack. I will be replacing the pump this week and also flushing the housing of the steering fluid and connecting hoses to the pump to remove any known particles and dirt. Any other maintenance the forum would suggest will be greatly appreciated. Honda Accord 1998, auto trans., 4cylinder 2.3Lx. Mileage 230,000. THANKS TO YOU ALL

Sounds like you have it covered.

Nothing else I can think of......as long as the regular maint items are all up to date.

hello to you all, I have been unable to get replacement for my power steering pump here. I have been driving the accord without the pump is there any future complications resulting from this apart from the steering being difficult to steer at bend. if any I will like to know so as to prevent additional damages to the car and get a quick replacement for the power steering pump. hope to hear from you people soon. Thanks

How did you "disconnect" the pump?

Have you looked into a rebuild kit for the pump? These things are pretty "hardy" and usually a rebuild/re-seal of them brings them back to life....and not that hat to do yourself.

Again, not really sure of the issue with the pump....a rebuild/re-seal kit can be had in the US for ~$20.

There are many write ups on doing this job. Here is an example, this is for a newer model but they are basically the same - https://www.hondaaccordforum.com/for...-accord-57704/
